This year I am reading through the Bible with the 365 Days of Pursuit notebook from New Philadelphia. I wanted to do it a couple of years ago, but found logging on, downloading, and printing a page before I could do my reading to be too many extra steps (I know, whaaaa). So I called the church office to see if they had it in notebook form–they do, and I bought it from them. Yeah!
So it’s different than my other daily Bible in that you just read straight through Gen. to Rev. In my old Bible, there was Old, New, and a teensy amount of Ps. and Prov. each day. So this is a good change of pace.
The accompanying notebook has a reading for each day with an overview of the passage, highlights and insights, and……this is my FAVORITE…a section called Christ is Revealed.
No matter how many times I see a “picture” of Christ in the Old Testament, I just can’t get over it! Now, I’m able to see one EVERY DAY—with New Testament cross referencing. I love it!
One of my favorite days was on Exodus 12:3-5…”Note the progression concerning the lamb in Ex. 12:3-5. It is ‘a lamb,’ then ‘the lamb,’ then ‘your lamb.’ The practical implications are powerful: in order for your sin to be removed, you need “A lamb” (Luke 2:11). But, not just any lamb will do! It must be “THE Lamb” (John 4:42). But in order for your sin to actually be taken away, “THE Lamb” must become “YOUR Lamb!”
I love the Passover Lamb picture of Christ, but I don’t think I had ever seen the ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘your’ progression before.
The New Philly folk have been labeled as possibly “hypertypological.” And they might be, but so far I am really enjoying and being challenged by this program.
I’m just amazed that “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” and if you look you can behold His glory on every page of scripture. From Creator to Melchizedek, Isaac to Joseph, the Priest and the feasts. Praise Him.
